This is a throwback post because we went to Nashville the first week of January to hear The Nashville Symphony Orchestra play the score of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” live as we watched the film. While it may sound like I’m being unoriginal, the only way I can describe our experience is that it was truly magical. I wanted to make sure to get the word out about how much we enjoyed ourselves because the NSO will be playing along to the third film next March and tickets are almost sold out (details below). If you can’t wait until March, Knoxville will have “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” in concert January 27 and tickets go on sale October 27 at 12pm here.
We made the trek to Nashville on a freezing night in January to celebrate my Aunt Jackie’s 60th birthday. I bought the tickets as soon as they became available for sale because I knew they would sell out. I set up an alert on my email and everything! Aunt Jackie means a lot to me and we share a love for all things Harry Potter so I didn’t want to miss the perfect opportunity to commemorate such a momentous occasion in her life.
Later that evening when I was driving back in a snow storm I thought it might have been the last thing we all did. All that was going through my mind was how much I wished we could have apparated back home. Portkeys in the form of old toilets would have been preferable to that hellacious drive. I was amazed when we made it back safe and sound-ish. (We ended up in a hotel off exit 407 but hey- we lived.)
Maybe I had a sip of “Liquid Luck” at dinner. No, wait… that was vodka.

My friend Blair and her sister drove down to meet us that night. You can see they are big fans, too! Blair wore Gryffindor colors and accessorized with a Time Turner necklace while Kara wore the colors of Ravenclaw. I wore a shirt that I got when I made a dontation to Lumos in support of all the work JK Rowling is doing to provide families for orphaned children. Something I didn’t realize is that many children are separated from their families due to poverty or disability not always because their parents pass away. The shirt says, “We do not need magic to transform our world; we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already.”
The Nashville Symphony Orchestra is playing the score to “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” in March of next year. Best get the jump on everyone and get your tickets here. I promise you that listening to the NSO play every last note of “Hedwig’s Theme” to perfection is worth the cost of admission all by itself. The third film is my favorite by far so that’s an added bonus if you’re still looking for one. But really… are you still looking for one? I hardly ever need an excuse to go to Nashville. Between the amazing selection of eateries, the unmatched entertainment, and the fact that Nashville is literally called the “Music City” you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better place to get spellbound.
