Today’s Bride Day Friday post is all about my favorite wedding movies. With all the work that goes into planning a wedding, turning on a movie with a glass of wine is the perfect way to decompress. I’ve now mastered the art of propping my laptop up on the towel crate in my bathroom and watching one of these while I soak in the tub. I know there are way more than 6 but these are the wedding movies I can’t live without. Please let me know your favorites in the comments section at the end of the post. I might want to watch it before my big day!
“Father of the Bride” is my number one favorite wedding movie. This is a remake of the film from 1950 but stars Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Martin Short, and Kimberly Williams Paisley. With as frugal as I have been throughout this process I joked with my dad that I am the George Banks of my own wedding.
If you want to laugh until you cry, “Bridesmaids” is the one for you. Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Melissa McCarthy prove why they are the queens of comedy.
“27 Dresses” is different because Jane is a bridesmaid that is obsessed with weddings. Instead of the plot centering around her own wedding it centers around her younger sister’s big day. Katherine Heigl and James Marsden star in the movie and can be held responsible for why “Benny and the Jets” is on our reception playlist.
Nia Vardalos based “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” on the true story of her wedding to her husband Ian who converted to Greek Orthodox Catholicism so they could get married. Let’s just say that I can relate to the chaos of a large and opinionated family and thinking that at any moment Chris might run away.
This one is perfect for a girls night in! “The Wedding Date” reminds us that letting go of the past is never easy but could free you up for something even better. Debra Messing’s character hires a male escort to attend her sister’s wedding with her in England and while it’s predictable I could watch it again and again.
Last but not least is a classic! “The Princess Bride” should be on any movie must-see list but it certainly qualifies as a must-see wedding movie. “The Princess Bride” is so quotable that you’ve probably heard a line from the movie even if you’ve never seen it.
