WELCOME TO CLEVELAND

Hello 2019! I can’t believe I’m writing my first post of the new year. The holidays seemed to jet passed me in a blur. I think this year I’ll put up my Christmas decorations BEFORE Thanksgiving like a heathen and everyone else can just deal. Last week, Chris and I went to Ohio to see family and we spent one of our days in Cleveland. This city has A LOT to offer. Here’s what we did during our short visit…

We had lunch at Melt, a restaurant that honors the widely accepted belief that one can never have too much cheese. From gourmet grilled cheese to mac’n’cheese I was in the throws of gooey bliss.

After lunch we headed to tour the house from the movie “A Christmas Story”. I posed for the picture while channeling the infamous tag line, “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!”

The day we went the house was completely open and the tours were self-guided. My one piece of advice would be to go on a day when you have to wait for a tour guide and go at a scheduled time because then the flow of people will be orchestrated making the house and accompanying museum less crowded.

How many fans of “A Christmas Story” do we have out there? I have plenty of childhood memories of my dad quoting the movie and laughing so hard! The best part about the tour was that you could touch or pick up anything in the house which I thought was quite brave of the owners. Usually the rule is “don’t touch anything” so that was a surprise for sure.

I think next time we go to Cleveland we’ve got the Great Lakes Brewing Company on our list as well as some more restaurants. We’ve been to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which is completely worth the price of admission. I also enjoy meandering around the West Side Market whenever the opportunity presents itself. Any recommendations for our next trip? Let me know in the comments. Wishing everyone the best in 2019!

  1. There are so many things to do! Plenty of breweries beyond Great Lakes, and a number in the same neighborhood. The art museum is wonderful and FREE! If you’re into music, there are always plenty of shows with local and national talents, and of course the orchestra. I could also go on and on about the food; there’s so much good food. I love Cleveland!
