Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I last posted and I want to apologize for being MIA this week. I’ve been fighting a migraine and low estrogen levels so looking at a screen without the help of Zofran has been difficult to say the least. I took the opportunity to focus on my health and to brainstorm new ideas for posts. Man, it feels good to be back! Today’s featured photo belongs to my best friend Hannah B. because we’re celebrating her birthday this weekend aka huge Super Bowl party/ birthday party/ an excuse for Chris to make a brisket. I’ll be sharing details on Instagram if you’re interested so you can follow along with all the festivities.
This week’s Friday 5 Things are as random as peanut butter and marshmallow fluff but hopefully they are as surprisingly wonderful together.
I like to refer to this year’s Grammy’s as “The Bruno Mars Show”. As much as I love the music coming out of his camp recently I was really excited for Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar. I was also surprised that Ed Sheeran took home multiple awards when he was nominated in the same category with Lady Gaga’s album “Joanne”. Everyone has his/her own taste in music and I believe it all depends on what you want to feel when you listen. Bruno Mars said himself that he was looking to make a record that would get people dancing and feeling good. I don’t fault him or anyone else for that. However, other records moved me emotionally this year and I was rooting for them. I think of Lady Gaga’s “Joanne” or “A Million Reasons”, Kesha’s “Praying”, and Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” aka “The Stay Woke Song”. The link above is a full list of winners. Let me know who your favorite artist was this year down in the comments.
Sugarfina is a candy company that specializes in personalized candy bento boxes. They are delicious and adorable for any occasion. The best part for me is that they have all sorts of candy without artificial colors in them. Score! I made my own bento box and one of the prompts asks if there are any dietary restrictions. You select what is applicable and a whole screen pops up for you to choose your favorites. I found Peachies without food coloring! I’m in heaven. Yes, they are more expensive but having as many food restrictions as I do has taught me to let it go and order the Peachies called “Peach Bellini” on Sugarfina’s site which is linked above. They have an amazing selection for Valentine’s.
Whaaaaat?! Preds fans rejoice! Mike Fisher says he’s ending his short-lived retirement and coming back to play hockey for the Nashville Predators. We want the cup! Needless to say we are over the moon about his decision. I can’t wait to see what this season holds for the Predators. Now we HAVE to go to a game this season. Hint hint, Christopher.
The premise of this book is that in the present day young women realize that they have the power of electrocution coursing through their bodies. This enables women to become the dominant sex. What will they do with this new found power? Exactly what you might think. “The Power” is one of the most thought-provoking pieces I’ve ever read regarding feminism and the patriarchy. Warning: Like many discussions involving injustice against women this book has rape scenes so tread lightly if that can be a trigger for you. I won’t spoil the story but I’m considering doing a full book review on “The Power” and a couple other books that are similar. Let me know if you’d be interested.
// THE SUPER BOWL //
No link here. I’m just excited for this weekend because I get to eat amazing food with even better company. I don’t care who wins or loses. I”ll be happy to have everyone over to celebrate Hannah’s birthday. I watch the Super Bowl mainly for the commercials and the half time show and I’m not afraid to admit it. I’m hoping it’s a good game, though. Blow outs are boring no matter what game you’re watching. If you have any recipes I should make for the game share them in the comments below!
I hope everyone has a happy and healthy weekend. Thanks again for being understanding of my illness this week and for all your support.
Until next time,
