This week ends up providing the perfect opportunity to pause and reflect on the year. What did you accomplish? What do you want to do the same or differently next year? What are your goals for 2018?
2017 was a great year for me personally since I got married in October and the last 2 months have been a welcome change of pace from traveling and planning non-stop. Now that things have slowed down I have the time to look back on 2017 and move forward with peace of mind and a full heart. I wanted to take the time to write down my goals for next year that way I can be held accountable. I can also look back on this post if I feel like I’ve lost focus. Win-win. Do you write down your goals? I think it helps but I know everyone is different. It takes all kinds.
Inhale the Good, Exhale the Bad
This is my perpetual life goal. I have to get better at looking people in the eye and saying, “I’m sorry you feel that way” and then completely letting it go. If someone doesn’t like me then I can examine if their quarrel has merit. If it does, then I can use that experience to grow as a person. If not, then I have to accept that there isn’t anything I can do to make that person happy and move on. Why is this so hard? Does anyone else struggle with this? The other motto I am trying to apply is “if it won’t matter in 5 years then don’t give it more than 5 minutes of your time”. That one is very practical as well.
Keep My Weight Off
I lost 15 lbs and 2 dress sizes in preparation for my wedding and I want it to stay gone! I’m proud of the progress I’ve made and I don’t want to backslide. However, carbs still exist so it could happen. I will continue counting Weight Watchers points and going to classes at the YMCA at least 2 days a week.
My goal for this year was to read 12 books then wedding planning sort of took over everything and I only read 9. My favorites from this year were Murder on the Orient Express and anything by Carrie Fisher. I devoured her books. I’d like to read more autobiographies in 2018. I’ve got Tina Fey, Mindy Kaling, and Dolly Parton on my list.
Take Amazing Photographs
I’m incredibly passionate about having the best possible photographs yet I have no knowledge of photography. Confusing, right? In 2018 I’m hoping to improve my skill set and take better pictures for the blog and for my own personal memories. If I can master the camera I have now then eventually I can move up in price and quality. Photoshop/Lightroom is another part of the challenge. Technology might as well be Mandarin Chinese to this girl. Pray for me.
Make Travel a Priority
I made travel a priority in 2017 and enjoyed every minute, every car ride, every missed turn, and I don’t regret it at all. My husband and I made memories that we can keep forever. The memories matter more to me than a bigger house or a brand new car. Travel is part of how I define my success. Instead of buying a pair of Christian Louboutin heels (which is perfectly fine for anyone to do) I enjoy going on trips with Chris or my girlfriends instead. In case you missed yesterday’s post I recapped all the places I’ve traveled this year and where I’m going in 2018. I’d love for you to check out 2018’s travel itinerary and see if you have any recommendations.
What about you? What are your goals for 2018? Are any of them similar to mine or are they completely different? Tell me what you hope to accomplish in 2018 down in the comments section. I hope everyone has a fabulous and safe New Year’s Eve celebration!
