My mom has been making “mummy dogs” around this time of year for as long as I can remember. When I saw them online I was in disbelief. I really thought my mom made these up! As a twenty-something “grown up” I still think mummy dogs are wickedly fun. This Halloween themed dish is one of the only ones in my arsenal so you know it has to be simple… delicious and kid approved but simple nonetheless.
Here’s the list of ingredients you’ll need:
1 pack of hot dogs (8 hot dogs)
1 can of crescent rolls
Mustard, ketchup, or whatever condiments you like
To make 8 of these little babies you start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees and by the time you finish wrapping your dogs in their mummy cloth it will be time for them to bake! I roll the crescent dough out into a sheet and press the serrated edges together so there are no holes in the sheet (no more triangles, one big rectangle). Then I take a knife to cut it into skinny strips of “cloth” for my mummy. Little hands are perfect helpers because there is no wrong way to do this, I promise. Set a timer for 10 minutes and then check on them. You want the crescent dough to be golden brown. Mine needed about 13 minutes this time but I would say if I had left them for more than 15 minutes they would have burned. Give your mummy dog mustard or ketchup eyes and you’re all set!
Remember to pin this if you like the post! Any excuse to let kiddos help in the kitchen is wonderful in my book. Mummy dogs are perfect for dinner on Halloween night!
*Special thanks to Blair and her daughter Quinn for being my mummy dog taste testers!
Until next time,
